Which is The Best Springboard to Get to the Galapagos: Quito or Guayaquil?

There are two ways to get to Galapagos Islands from Guayaquil or Quito Airport. International travelers from the USA and Europe will first need to fly into either Quito or Guayaquil (Ecuador’s main international airports), and then take a domestic flight to get to the islands. Quito is one of the most beautiful capital cities in South America. It has a well preserved historical centre, which is full of an impressive colonial architecture. There are some things to do in Guayaquil, however, it is generally less touristy than Quito – there are not as many attractions or areas to walk around. There you can visit neighboring cacao and banana plantations, or go to one of the beaches a couple hours north of Guayaquil. Also, you can visit Malecon 2000 where  families stroll the gardens or sit to enjoy the breeze while sipping on a cool drink, and tourists go to snap photos with the statues of Simón Bolivar and San Martin or with the large Guayaquil sign.

Due it’s near the sea, there are many seafood available. The famous and delicious seafood soup “cazuela de mariscos” and cebiche are typical dishes in Guayaquil.
